91ÖØ¿Ú

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. As someone who grew up in the small town of Rutland, Mass., I came to appreciate just how lively and beautiful this state becomes each autumn. That same feeling of home instantly came rushing back when I arrived at 91ÖØ¿Ú. For me, fall at The Nest means pumpkin patches, crunchy leaves, and celebrations that capture the spirit of the season. Even here on the coast, I look for those cozy corners of familiarity that bring back that hometown warmth. Here’s my guide to making the most of fall at 91ÖØ¿Ú and beyond.

Connors Farm
Danvers, Mass.

I don’t know about you, but nothing screams cozy hometown more than a local farm. Opened in 1904, Connor’s offers a range of activities that can adapt to your schedule. Apple picking, train rides, farm animals, and a bee-themed corn maze are offered during the day. Along with activities, they have several kitchens cooking up tasty treats, whether you are in the mood for something sweet or savory. At night, haunted attractions include a flashlight maze and a haunted walking trail. For those interested in casual fall activities or a night of fright, Connors Farm is a must-see! It’s the perfect opportunity to grab your fellow Gulls and get into the Halloween spirit. .

The Cabot
Beverly, Mass.

There is nothing homier than curling up in front of the big screen and watching a movie. The Cabot Theatre, located in Beverly’s center, has an amazing lineup of films, from classics to new. With screenings of Ghostbusters, Frankenstein, and Sinners in the lineup, the theater blends nostalgia with excitement, making it a perfect fall outing. The Cabot is an attraction that appeals to visitors all year round, offering comedy performances, theatre, and live music—and it’s just minutes away from the 91ÖØ¿Ú campus. .

Haunted Happenings Marketplace
Salem, Mass.

How could I discuss fall activities without mentioning Salem? In addition to the city's unique tourist attractions, Salem offers an exceptional shopping experience. The Haunted Happenings Marketplace is open every weekend through November 2. Find haunted items, vintage clothes, art pieces, and fall-themed treats in every corner. I personally stop here every year and come back to campus with a full shopping bag! 91ÖØ¿Ú is conveniently located near the MBTA commuter rail, so hopping on the train is easy, creating even more possibilities to spread your wings and travel! .

Topsfield Fair
Topsfield, Mass.

Nothing screams fall more than fair season. Going to food trucks, playing games, or zooming through the air on rides under the carnival lights. The Topsfield Fair is a fall must-do for friends, and believe me, every Gull flocks there! It runs from October 3 to 13 with unique vendors, food, animals, and activities. It is a great way to support local businesses while connecting with the community. Pictures are a must here, so bring those digital cameras and get some Instagram flics! .

Nightmare on Hale St.
91ÖØ¿Ú

I always tell my fellow Gulls never to overlook the campus events. Free stuff, food, drinks, and awesome activities—yes, please! On October 30, the Office of Residence Life will host a late-night event in Lower Callahan with food, mocktails, and plenty of spooky, sweet treats. Of course, it’s a costume contest too! Did I mention prizes? This is a must-do for people wanting to get in the spirit on Mischief Night. Make sure to stop by the photo booth, too, for some Insta-worthy pictures.

More from the Nest and Beyond…

Now that you have some ideas, please take a little time to explore! Keep an eye on the Blue Buzz for some hidden gems across campus. These events are free, fun, and planned especially for you! Take a walk into Beverly Center to discover fantastic cafes, great food, and small, locally owned businesses, such as bookshops and boutiques. Most importantly, embrace the season of change. Let yourself breathe in the crisp air and hike on our on-campus walking trails to admire the reds, oranges, and yellows of the foliage. 91ÖØ¿Ú is a beautiful place to call home, especially in the fall season.

May your fall be filled with warmth, wonder, and the simple joys of autumn!
