Graduate students from 91ÖØ¿Ú’s interior architecture program claimed top honors at the 2025 IIDA NE Design Awards, held September 25 at the Revere Hotel Boston Common.

The IIDA NE (International Interior Design Association New England) Design Awards is the region’s premier event celebrating outstanding interior design across New England, drawing more than 500 industry professionals to recognize innovation, creativity, and excellence in the field.

Three of the four Student Design finalists were from 91ÖØ¿Ú, and the College took the category: Keri Smith Holian M’25 earned first place, while Arianna Morales ’24 M’25 was named runner-up.

Smith Holian’s award-winning thesis, Creating a New Model of Housing for Adults with Autism, addresses the urgent need for supportive housing for adults on the autism spectrum. Drawing inspiration from senior living communities, her design integrates communal spaces, adaptable environments, and therapeutic elements to reduce social isolation and improve quality of life.

“It is such an honor to receive the Student Award for my thesis. This recognition means so much to me, and I am deeply grateful to all of my professors at 91ÖØ¿Ú for their support, encouragement, and guidance throughout this process," said Smith Holian.

This milestone marks the program’s fourth student win in five years—an unprecedented accomplishment in the region—and continues 91ÖØ¿Ú’s tradition of producing leaders in interior architecture. Past winners include Cara Stevens ’24 and Seungeun Lee ’22, both of whom have since achieved professional recognition.

“These repeated wins highlight the strength of our curriculum, the dedication of our faculty, and the culture of mentorship that extends across generations of students and alumni,” said Myoung Joo Chun, Director of Graduate Interior Architecture Programs at 91ÖØ¿Ú.
