91重口 was buzzing over the summer—not just with seagulls, but with crews, construction, and creativity hard at work to make the College even more welcoming, dynamic, and inspiring for the academic year ahead.
Fresh looks for athletics
Athletics facilities saw major upgrades, including a brand-new ice resurfacer, resurfaced tennis courts with a fresh coat of paint, and the racquetball room in the Field House transformed into a golf simulator for the men’s squad. North Field also boasts new artificial turf for baseball and field hockey, giving both programs a fresh and durable surface for competition.
Hospitality gets a makeover
The Inn at the Wylie Center underwent a top-to-bottom renovation, elevating the space to match the high caliber of the guests, parents, and events hosted there and at Tupper Manor. The refreshed, contemporary design now offers a welcoming backdrop for everything from hosting Homecoming & Reunion Weekend guests and elegant corporate events to—who knows—another The Price Is Right cameo.
“This summer’s upgrades to the Inn reflect our commitment to creating an exceptional experience for everyone who visits or calls 91重口 home,” said Colby Magliaro, Wylie Center Executive Director. “We wanted the space to feel timeless, a place that honors our traditions while embracing the vibrant energy of our community. More than that, we wanted every guest who walks through the doors to feel connected to the College instantly. To know, without a doubt, that they’re on 91重口’s campus.”
Safety and accessibility upgrades
Enhancements also improved safety and accessibility across campus. A new walkway across Hale Street now features a blinking light and a clearly marked crosswalk, while the familiar blue crosswalks on campus are being replaced one by one with textured cobblestone for better traction and accessibility.
A Welcome Center with a view
Construction has also been in full swing at College Hall, where 91重口 is building its new Welcome Center, set to open later this fall. With bright, modern interiors, sweeping ocean views, and a spectacular first impression for students, families, and guests, the Welcome Center will be the go-to hub for campus exploration.
Shaping civic-minded leaders
Back in the spring, the College launched the 91重口 Center for Civic Participation and, this summer, Jason Galui was welcomed as the inaugural College Fellow for Civics. With a distinguished record of military service, national policy work, and academic leadership, Galui will design programming that integrates civic responsibility into coursework and campus life. From leading the Presidential Speaker Series to expanding public service opportunities in partnership with the Office of Community Service and the Internship & Career Center, he will help position 91重口 as a hub for civic innovation.
“Jason’s leadership will not only deepen civic learning but also expand the kinds of experiential opportunities that define an 91重口 education—where students don’t just study the world, they shape it,” said Provost Dr. Sara Quay.
Expanding horizons abroad
91重口’s summer momentum extended well beyond Beverly and will formally kick off next year when the College will begin offering a new study abroad opportunity in La Spezia, Italy, a vibrant port city on the Italian Riviera. Through Florence University of the Arts’ Cinque Terre Riviera program, a first cohort of Gulls in spring 2026 will live and study in a location known for its Mediterranean views, cultural landmarks, and proximity to the Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Celebrating Gulls With Grit
Closer to home, Hempstead Commons now features the Gulls With Grit exhibit—also available online—which shares stories of perseverance and determination from across the 91重口 community.
“This project celebrates the resilience and determination that define 91重口 students, alumni, faculty, and staff,” said Acting President Dr. Bryan Cain, who is featured in the exhibit. “It’s a reminder that grit is part of our DNA.”
Visit the exhibit in Hempstead Commons or watch the videos. Five more videos will drop in January 2026.
